Restaurant Schwarzer Adler in Rothenburg ob der Tauber

This review is long overdue. Americans, here, who started what was supposed to be a month-long trip in Germany, beginning March 1, 2020. Rothenburg was about 2 1/2 weeks into the trip, and it was there where we started to see the country shut down due to the pandemic. We stayed at the charming Hotel Schwarzer Adler, and we were the only guests. The hosts were so accommodating and friendly. The room was super clean and comfortable, the breakfast was amazing, and the location was perfect. We had the town to ourselves, which was a bit eerie. When we were leaving for Oberammergau where we had our last reservation, we asked the hosts if we could not find another place to stay, could we come back to their hotel. They said we could. After one night in Oberammergau, we were kicked out, so we drove back to Rothenburg. These lovely people took us in but told us we really should leave the country. We got a new flight out of Munich since our flight out of Berlin had been cancelled. They got us a hotel room in Munich, which was a miracle, as by this point everything was shut down. I will forever be thankful to these two wonderful people. I hope they are safe and I wish them happiness and prosperity.

In July we spent 4 night in Rothenburg and even though the town and surrounding area are beautiful, our stay at Hotel Schwarzer Adler made our trip that much more amazing! The young couple running the hotel were very friendly and helpful if we had any requests or questions. The room was large and although not modern (which we didn't mind considering it's located in the center of old town), it was clean and very comfortable. A highlight was the buffet still breakfast with fresh breads from the bakery down the street. We will definitely visit again in the future and we recommend this hotel to anyone that is considering a trip to Bavaria. We had a 5-star experience at an affordable price!

Excellent staff. Super friendly and makes the hotel a 5 star experience. Hotel room is clean just be aware it is next to a church that rings it's bell constantly. They do provide earplugs however. Highly recommend this hotel.

Very kind stuff, very clean and quiet rooms and a value for money breakfast with a great variety of local products. I strongly recommend it, especially during this covid-19 season.

I spent only one night at the Hotel Schwarzer Adler and I had a great experience. The hotel location is excellent inside the city wall, the room was very clean, comfortable bed and very good shower. The staff are super friendly and helpful with recommendations of things to do and where to eat. I really recommend this hotel if you are visiting Rothenburg, you will have a great experience!
